Basic qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in any discipline and a good grasp of English (for details)

Class size: 26 participants

Course duration: 16 weeks (6:30 to 9:00 am, Mon-Fri)

Course fee: General fee: Rs 11,000 (course material included)

Immersion Course on Contemporary Social Issues: An Introduction

The Immersion Course on Contemporary Social Issues is a 4-month-long academic course based on the social sciences conducted by the Social Science Baha twice every year. The objective of the Course is to enable Nepali graduates to intellectually comprehend critical contemporary issues through an intense exposure to liberal arts and social sciences as they relate to Nepali society, thereby providing the participants with skills to develop as successful, socially productive professionals.
The immersion course involves an orientation to sociology and anthropology followed by rigorous instructions on specific areas chosen from, but not restricted to, development, economy, education, ethnicity, gender, history, law, media, philosophy, politics and technology, and with a focus on the interface of each of these fields with society. Finally, a strong research component gives participants practical exposure to social research. Each module takes one week apart from the research module, which is carried over a period of 6 weeks. The Social Science Baha will provide fellowships to deserving participants from disadvantaged groups, women and members of college faculties. Interested individuals from outside the Kathmandu valley are encouraged to apply. Financial support is available to genuinely needy out-of-town participants to stay in Kathmandu for the duration of the course.
