Himal Association established the Centre for Investigative Journalism in 1997 to assist Nepali journalists, working mostly in the 'vernacular' to carry out in-depth research in pressing social, political and economic areas. The centre provides short-term and long-term fellowships to practicising journalists so that they can focus on a particular topic for a period longer than it would be possible in day-to-day journalism. Besides providing editorial support to the journalists, the Centre also helps place their write-ups in newspapers and magazines.
