The fourth edition of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) was successfully organized in Kathmandu from 7-11 December 2006. Seventy three films – documentaries, features, animation, shorts – from 26 countries were screened back to back at three venues across Kathmandu - at the Russian Cultural Centre, Kamal Pokhari; Gurukul, Purano Baneshwore and the Tourist Service Centre at Exhibition Road.
Thanks to the overwhelming enthusiasm of film viewers, the support of numerous volunteers, the presence of filmmakers from around the world and the support of various Kathmandu-based organizations in making this festival a huge success.
From a biennial festival celebrated every other year since 2000, we have decided to make Kimff an annual event to maintain the momentum and sustained interest in the festival.
“Riding Solo to the Top of the World”, a film from India, won the Kimff 2006 Audience Award. Kesang Tseten, director of “Hami Kunako Maanche’ (a documentary on a remote Nepali village that gets a bridge) won a cash award of Rs. 25,000 for best Nepali documentary. The award was sponsored by the Film Development Board to encourage documentary filmmaking in Nepal.
