Nawang Gombu

Nawang Gombu started climbing in 1953; his first summit was in 1953, a first ascent of Saser Kangri II. 1960 was another first ascent for him, on Frey Peak. Other than his two summits of Everest, Nawang Gombu has also summited Nanda Devi (1964), Mont Blanc (1966), Mt Rainier (1973), Mt McKinley (1978), and Kangchenjunga (1989).

Nawang Gombu has completed numerous professional courses, including the International Course from the Swiss Mountainering School Rosenlami, the Guide Course from Grand Teton, USA, the International Course from Ecole Nationale, Chamonix, France, and Guide Service from the Rainier Mountain Guide Service, USA. He is a member of the Explorer’s Club, USA, the Japanese Alpine Club, The Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, and Official Mountain Guides, USA.
